COMPENSATION & LOCATION
The salary for this role is $57,000.
This is a hybrid position in our Elk Grove Village location.
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for leading and developing a team of Prior Authorization Representatives, including both permanent and contingent staff, to ensure timely and accurate processing of patient enrollments, benefit verifications, and prior authorizations. Provides daily oversight of workflow, queue management, and claim resolution across pharmacy and medical benefits, ensuring all work is completed within established service level expectations.
Maintains a hands-on leadership approach by actively supporting day-to-day operations, including working complex cases, assisting with escalations, and stepping into queues as needed to meet turnaround times and support team productivity. Serves as a subject matter expert for prior authorization processes, payer requirements, and system workflows.
Drives team performance by setting clear expectations, monitoring productivity and quality metrics, and holding staff accountable to operational standards. Reviews and validates team output to ensure accuracy, compliance, and proper documentation within system workflows. Identifies gaps in performance, implements corrective actions, and provides ongoing coaching and development to improve individual and team effectiveness. Partners cross-functionally with internal stakeholders including pharmacy operations, reimbursement, audit, and leadership, as well as external partners such as providers, manufacturers, and payers, to resolve escalations and remove barriers to patient access. Ensures adherence to regulatory requirements, company policies, and client-specific expectations.
Supports staffing needs through participation in hiring, onboarding, and training of new team members. Fosters a collaborative, high-performance environment focused on accountability, efficiency, and patient-centered outcomes.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Monitors the production, volume, and quality of work produced by the team using a variety of reports and audit tools. Makes daily adjustments to assignments to achieve maximum results. Ensures account audits are completed daily and weekly.
- Functions as the main resource for questions regarding admissions policies and procedures. Resolves escalated Prior Authorization and Specialty Benefits Verification issues. Collects and publishes data, establishes facts, draws conclusions, solves problems, and responds to inquiries. Ensures other departments are involved when needed and escalates IT issues appropriately.
- Responsible for integration of new complex business for therapies handled by the assigned team. Disseminates accurate information to the team. Assists with the development of departmental policies, procedures, and process improvement strategies. Communicates procedural changes to departments affected by the change. Establishes individual employee goals and provides timely performance feedback. Recognizes and rewards good performance. Addresses and resolves Human Resource issues in accordance with policies and procedures, including disciplinary action. Escalates issues to HR appropriately. Completes yearly performance reviews.
- Trains and motivates team members and interfaces with contingent workforce corporate managers. Ensures employees have all required tools, including appropriate system access. Approves payroll for permanent and contingent workforce.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & TRAINING
- Previous leadership/management experience
- Experience with Major Medical Insurance
- Knowledge of pharmacy benefit, rejection codes, and claims processing
- Knowledge of pharmacy and insurance terminology of coverage
- Knowledge of HCPCS codes
- Able to multitask and work in a fast-paced/changing environment
- Detail-oriented 8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
